Air Filter Frequently Asked Questions

Can and air conditioning system become damaged by improper air filters?
"Studies show that 9 out of 10 system failures are caused by dirt." -(LCES)
When dust, dirt, and biological pollutants get passed your air filter, they begin to accumulate on your cooling coil. A dirty coil can often lead to costly compressor failure. Dirty coils can also damage your indoor fan motor because of the excessive load placed on it due to the blockage of air flow.

Why do dirt marks form around vents?
Dirt marks are not caused by dirt coming out of the vents. They are coming from the air in the room itself. Dirt is drawn in by the air movement of convection currents coming out of the vents and then settles around the vents. Using an efficient air filter will reduce the amount of airborne dirt.

Does a dirty air conditioning system use more electricity?
"A build up of .042 inches of dirt on a cooling coil can result in a decrease in efficiency of 21%." -(EPA)
Yes, because dirt is an insulator, it interferes with the heat transfer between the air and you're cooling coil. This causes the system to run longer and use more electricity.

Can an inefficient air filter contribute to biological growth in an air conditioning system?
"Indoor air is found to be up to 70 times more polluted than outdoor air." -(EPA)
Growth in an air conditioning system is caused by airborne organisms and spores coming into contact with the wet environment of the system. Inefficient air filters allow these contaminants to penetrate and enter the air system. Once in contact with moisture, they grow and multiply, until they plug up the condensate lines and cause water leaks as well as recirculate in the air you breathe.

What are CorrectFilters™?
CorrectFilters™ are highly efficient air filters for heating and air conditioning systems. They consist of permanent, gasketed aluminum air filter frames (patented) incorporating a single wall of electrostatically-charged polypropylene. This air filter frame houses a replaceable polyester air filter pad that is coated with a tactifier that makes particles stick. The pad is treated with the antimicrobial Aegis compound which kills organisms and spores on contact, eliminating a virtual breeding ground.

Can the CorrectFilters™ system help relieve allergy symptoms?
"One out of six people who suffer from allergies do so because of the direct relationship to the fungi and bacteria in the air duct system." -(Better Health Magazine)
CorrectFilters™ uses Aegis because it is a proven antimicrobial treatment. It contains no arsenic, heavy metals, halogenated compounds, pheolics, nor formaldehyde. Aegis is EPA approved and environmentally friendly. The union of the gasketed air filter frame and the Aegis pad efficiently contains and kills all contaminants therefore helping to relieve indoor air of dust and all other airborne particles that irritate allergies (including animal dander).

Can CorrectFilters™ remove odors as well as pollutants?
Activated carbon air filters can be purchased to absorb organic and inorganic compounds, human and animal body odors, cooking odors and smoke. When purifying air, both particulate matter and gaseous/vaporized compounds must be removed. Using a carbon pad simultaneously with an Aegis pad will achieve a high level of indoor air purification.

How often are the pads changed?
As with any air filter, the pads should be changed as suggested. Because CorrectFilters™ are such highly efficient air cleaning systems, it will remove much more dust and contaminants than ordinary air filters. Activated Carbon air filters should be changed once every three months.
